Ranga Reddy district was formed under the name of ‘Hyderabad rural’.

_{On August 15, 1978, the Rangareddy district of Telangana, India was formed by merging the urban and rural areas of the remaining taluks of the Hyderabad district, and by separating a portion of the Hyderabad Urban Taluk. The district was originally called Hyderabad (Rural), then Konda Venkata Rangareddy district, and finally Rangareddy district. It was named after K.V.Rangareddi, a freedom fighter and Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh who fought for Telangana’s independence from the Nizams.}
