Ranga Reddy district was formed under the name of ‘Hyderabad rural’.


On August 15, 1978, the Rangareddy district of Telangana, India was formed by merging the urban and rural areas of the remaining taluks of the Hyderabad district, and by separating a portion of the Hyderabad Urban Taluk. The district was originally called Hyderabad (Rural), then Konda Venkata Rangareddy district, and finally Rangareddy district. It was named after K.V.Rangareddi, a freedom fighter and Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh who fought for Telangana’s independence from the Nizams.
