Read Your World Day

Read Your World Day (formerly Multicultural Children’s Book Day) is observed on the last Thursday of January.

This annual celebration highlights diversity in children’s literature and emphasizes the importance of including books that feature diverse voices, cultures, and perspectives.

Multicultural Children’s Book Day was founded in 2012 by authors and literacy advocates Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen.

It encourages parents, educators, librarians, and caregivers to introduce children to stories from around the world, helping them develop empathy, cultural awareness, and an appreciation for differences.
