Robert H. Goddard
Robert H. Goddard (Robert Hutchings Goddard) was an American physicist, engineer, inventor, professor.
Pioneer of Liquid-Fuel Rocket Technology.
Creator of the world’s first liquid-fueled rocket.
Congressional Gold Medal recipient.
His research significantly improved the efficiency of rocket propulsion and helped usher in the era of modern rockets and space exploration.
Between 1926 and 1941, Goddard and his team launched 34 experimental rockets, reaching altitudes of up to 2.6 km (1.6 miles) and speeds of about 885 km/h (550 mph).
In his memory, NASA established the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, on 1 May 1959.
