Sister Nirmala Joshi succeeded Mother Teresa as the Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity.
She was elected to this role in March 1997, six months before Mother Teresa’s death on September 5, 1997. Sister Nirmala led the congregation until 2009, when she stepped down due to health reasons.
