Spirit Day

Spirit Day is observed annually on the third Thursday of October.

It is an international campaign created to highlight the bullying of gay and lesbian teenagers, a problem that contributes to hundreds of suicides each year.

The day was inaugurated in 2010 to encourage people to support LGBT youth.

The initiative was started by Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan, who worked for GLAAD.

The UN Free & Equal campaign later joined Spirit-Day to amplify its message.
