Subhas Chandra Bose escaped from British house arrest in Calcutta.

On the night of 16–17 January 1941, Subhas Chandra Bose escaped from British house arrest in Calcutta.

Around 1:30 a.m. on 17 January, he quietly left his Elgin Road residence in a move that later became legendary as the “Great Escape.”

Disguised as Mohammad Ziauddin, he concealed himself in the back seat of a car to evade British detection.

The risky journey was driven by his nephew, Sisir Kumar Bose, whose courage and precision were crucial to the success of the escape.
