Subordinate Services Commission was renamed as Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

On November 4, 1975, the Government of India established the Subordinate-Services-Commission under Resolution No. 46/1(S)/74-Estt.(B), aimed at recruiting non-gazetted staff for central government ministries and departments.

It was renamed the Staff-Selection-Commission (SSC) on September 26, 1977, to better reflect its expanded mandate for conducting exams like the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) and Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) for Group B and C posts.
