Sukri Bommagowda #

Sukri Bommagowda is an Indian folk songstress, social reformeress.

She received the Janapada Shri Award, the Padma Shri, the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, and the Naadoja Award.

She was recognized for her lifelong work in preserving Halakki tribal folk traditions.

She was affectionately called “Sukrajji” and was known as the “Halakki Kogile” (the nightingale of the Halakki community).

She actively participated in movements for literacy, prohibition, and the recognition of Scheduled Tribes.

Her life and work are included in Karnataka’s school textbooks.
