International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is observed annually on 26 June.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the observance on 12 December 1997.

The day commemorates the entry into force of the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment on 26 June 1987.

It reaffirms the commitment to the complete eradication of torture and the effective implementation of the Convention against Torture.

The observance honors victims and survivors of torture and promotes their rehabilitation, justice, and human rights worldwide.
