Sustainable Gastronomy Day

Sustainable Gastronomy Day, observed annually on June 18th.

It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2016 (Resolution A/RES/71/246) to highlight the role of sustainable gastronomy in promoting sustainable development.

Gastronomy, often described as the art and culture of food, reflects local and regional cooking styles, while sustainability ensures that food production, preparation, and consumption minimize environmental harm and preserve natural resources for future generations. This day emphasizes how sustainable gastronomy contributes to food security, nutrition, agricultural development, biodiversity conservation, and cultural diversity, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger).
