The Dalit Panthers, a revolutionary anti-caste organization, was founded in India.

On 9 July 1972, the Dalit Panther Movement emerged publicly in Mumbai, Maharashtra, through its first major public gathering.

Its origins trace back to 29 May 1972, when Namdeo Dhasal and J. V. Pawar decided to establish the organization to fight caste discrimination and atrocities against Dalits.

Inspired by the Black Panther Party and the ideas of B. R. Ambedkar, the movement mobilized Dalit youth through protests, literature, and cultural activism, becoming one of modern India's most influential anti-caste movements.
