The first one rupee note was issued in India.

On 30 November 1917, the first one-rupee note in India was issued during British rule.

It carried the portrait of King George V and the signature of Sir James B. Taylor, India’s first Controller of Currency.

This marked the beginning of India’s low-denomination paper money.
