The first train in India (first goods train) had run between Roorkee and Piran Kaliyar.

 This train purchased from Britain, was used to transport earth required for construction of a canal in Piran Kaliyar, 10 km from Roorkee.

"The first passenger train had run in India between Bombay and Thane on 16 April 1853."
