The Pahalgam terror attack occurred.
On 22 April 2025, the Pahalgam terror attack occurred in Baisaran Valley, popularly known as “Mini Switzerland,” in Jammu and Kashmir.
It was one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in the region in decades.
A total of 26 civilians, mostly tourists from across India, were killed.
Between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, heavily armed terrorists emerged from surrounding forests and opened fire using M4 carbines and AK-47s.
Witnesses reported that victims were separated based on religion, with Hindu men specifically targeted, though a local Muslim guide and a Christian tourist were also killed.
Syed Adil Shah, a local guide, lost his life while saving 11 tourists from Chhattisgarh.
The Resistance Front, a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.
On 7 May 2025, Operation SINDOOR was launched by the Indian Armed Forces as a tri-services military campaign in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
