The Swaraj Party was established in India.
On 1 January 1923, Swaraj Party was established as the Congress–Khilafat Swaraj Party by C. R. Das and Motilal Nehru.
C. R. Das served as the party’s main ideologue, while Motilal Nehru played a key organisational role.
The formation of the Swaraj Party followed major developments such as the withdrawal of the Non-Cooperation Movement, the provisions of the Government of India Act, 1919, and the 1923 legislative council elections.
The party aimed to enter the councils to demand greater self-government and political freedom for the Indian people under British rule.
