UN Arabic Language Day

UN Arabic Language Day, also known as World Arabic Language Day, is observed annually on 18 December.

It is to celebrate the Arabic language and its cultural, historical, and civilizational significance.

The date marks 18 December 1973, when Arabic was adopted as one of the six official languages of the United Nations.

First celebrated by UNESCO in 2010, the day highlights Arabic’s role in literature, science, philosophy, and global communication, and promotes linguistic diversity and multilingualism within the UN system and beyond.
