The day after the Mahad Satyagraha, upper-caste Hindus performed a ritual to purify the Chavdar Tank after Dalits had drunk from it.
On 20 March 1927, Ambedkar organized the Mahad Satyagraha, through which Dalits gained access to Chavdar Tank public water while fighting untouchability.
On 21 March 1927, upper-caste Hindus believed the tank had been defiled by Dalits.
They performed a purification ritual at the tank.
They removed water in 108 earthen pots, mixed it with cow urine, cow dung, curds, and milk.
They returned the mixture to the tank while chanting mantras.
The ritual was meant to make the tank ritually clean for upper-caste use.
