Uruguay Independence Day

Uruguay Independence Day is observed annually on 25 August.

The day commemorates the declaration of independence adopted by representatives of the Oriental Province at the Congress of Florida on 25 August 1825.

They approved three fundamental laws—the Law of Independence, Law of Union, and Law of the Flag—rejecting foreign authority and marking a decisive stage in Uruguay’s gradual independence process.

It is a national public holiday celebrating Uruguay’s sovereignty, freedom, national identity, and historic struggle for independence.
