Savarkar (Vinayak Damodar Savarkar) an Indian independence activist, nationalist, lawyer, social reformer, author.

Co-founder of ‘Abhinav Bharat Society’ (Young India Society).

Founder of ‘Free India Society’, an organization of Indian students in London.

President of the ‘Hindu Mahasabha’.

He opposed untouchability, supported temple entry for lower castes in Ratnagiri, and promoted reforms in Hindu society, though he did not support a completely casteless system.

His mercy petitions from the Cellular Jail remain highly debated, with critics calling them surrender and supporters describing them as a political strategy.

His portrait was unveiled in the Indian Parliament in 2003.
