William Colgate a British-American industrialist, entrepreneur, philanthropist.

Founder of William-Colgate & Company (now called Colgate-Palmolive), one of the world’s largest consumer products companies.

Co-Founder of New York Bible Society (now Biblica).

He was deeply religious and a devoted Baptist, and he used much of his wealth to support education, religion, and community causes.

His company produced soap, candles, and starch.

Toothpaste was introduced by the company after his death, under his son Samuel Colgate.
