World Children’s Day

World Children’s Day is celebrated every year on 20 November.

It was established by the United Nations in 1954 to promote international togetherness, raise awareness of children’s rights, and improve child welfare worldwide.

The date is significant because on 20 November 1959 the UN adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.

On the same day in 1989 the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified human-rights treaty in history.
