World Day for Decent Work

World Day for Decent Work is observed annually on October 7th.

It is to promote the concept of decent work globally, emphasizing fair wages, safe conditions, job security, and workers’ rights.

Established in 2008 by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), it has mobilized millions through events like demonstrations, conferences, and campaigns to place decent work at the heart of economic policies.

World Day for Decent Work aligns with the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Decent Work Agenda, which rests on four pillars: rights at work (including non-discrimination and minimum wages), employment creation, social protection, and social dialogue.

It addresses challenges like precarious employment, inequality, and the impact of globalization on labor standards.
