World Drowning Prevention Day
World Drowning Prevention Day observed annually on July 25.
It is a United Nations-recognized awareness day dedicated to highlighting the urgent and preventable global issue of drowning, which claims around 3,00,000 lives each year—mostly in low- and middle-income countries and among children.
Established by the UN General Assembly in April 2021, the day urges governments, communities, and individuals to take life-saving actions such as teaching swimming, installing safety barriers near water, and improving emergency response.
Led by the World Health Organization, it serves as a global call to action to reduce drowning deaths through education, legislation, and public awareness.
