World Emoji Day

World Emoji Day is observed annually on 17 July.

The date was chosen because 17 July is displayed on the Calendar emoji, originally reflecting the date Apple announced iCal for Mac in 2002.

Founded by Jeremy Burge, the founder of Emojipedia, the observance was established in 2014 to celebrate the widespread use and cultural impact of emojis as a universal form of digital communication.

The day also promotes creativity, digital expression, and online communication through emojis.

It is marked through social media campaigns, emoji-themed events, online activities, and announcements of new emoji releases and updates by major technology companies and platforms.
