World Population Day

World Population Day, observed annually on July 11.

It aims to raise awareness about global population issues and their impact on development, sustainability, and human rights.

Established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989.

Inspired by the global interest when the world population reached 5 billion on July 11, 1987 — known as ‘Five Billion Day’.

The day was formalized by the UN General Assembly in 1990 to address concerns like family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and environmental sustainability.
