World Refugee Day

World Refugee Day is observed annually on June 20th.

It is to honor the courage, resilience, and strength of refugees worldwide. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2000, it marks the anniversary of the 1951 Refugee Convention, which defines the rights of refugees and the obligations of states to protect them.

The day aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by refugees—people forced to flee their homes due to persecution, conflict, or violence—and to celebrate their contributions to host communities.
