World Sanskrit Day

World Sanskrit Day, also known as Vishva Samskrita Dinam, is celebrated every year on Shravana Purnima, the full-moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana.

The day was first officially established in 1969 by the Government of India’s Ministry of Education.

It aims to honor and promote Sanskrit — one of the world’s oldest and most revered languages — through activities such as poetry recitation, shloka chanting, lectures, seminars, and competitions.

Institutions hold seminars on the Indian knowledge system, and students take part in Vedic chanting, essay writing, and Sanskrit conversation, helping revive interest in this ancient linguistic and intellectual tradition.
