World Tessellation Day

World Tessellation Day is celebrated on June 17th each year.
It is to honor the art and mathematics of tessellation, where geometric shapes tile a plane without gaps or overlaps. Initiated in 2016 by Emily Grosvenor, author of the children’s book Tessalation!, the day coincides with the birthday of M.C. Escher, a Dutch artist renowned for his tessellation artworks.
It aims to promote appreciation for the blend of creativity and analytical thinking in tessellations, seen in nature (e.g., honeycombs), architecture, and modern digital art.
