World Zoonoses Day

World Zoonoses Day is observed annually on 6 July.

It commemorates the successful administration of the first rabies vaccine by Louis Pasteur to Joseph Meister on 6 July 1885, a milestone in the prevention of zoonotic diseases.

The day raises awareness about zoonoses—infectious diseases that can spread between animals and humans—and highlights the importance of prevention, surveillance, vaccination, and the One Health approach.

It is marked through public awareness campaigns, educational programmes, vaccination drives, veterinary initiatives, and collaborative efforts to strengthen human, animal, and environmental health.
