World’s first space station ‘Salyut 1’ was deorbited.
On 11 October 1971, Salyut-1 was deorbited by the Soviet Union after 175 days in orbit, burning up over the Pacific Ocean upon reentry. Salyut-1 hosted a crew for 23 days (Soyuz 11 mission), marking the first human stay on a space station. The station carried scientific equipment for experiments, including a telescope and spectrometer, but its mission ended tragically when the Soyuz 11 crew died during reentry due to a cabin depressurization. Salyut 1 was deorbited after 175 days in space, burning up over the Pacific Ocean on October 11, 1971.
