India was ranked the world's most dangerous country for women in the Thomson Reuters Foundation poll.

On 26 June 2018, the Thomson Reuters Foundation in London published a survey of global experts that ranked India as the world's most dangerous country for women.

The poll surveyed about 550 global experts on women's issues.

India ranked highest because of concerns over sexual violence, human trafficking, forced labour, sex slavery, domestic servitude, and harmful cultural practices.

The findings sparked widespread debate and criticism over women's safety in India.

On 27 June 2018, India's Ministry of Women and Child Development stated that the ranking was based on a perception survey rather than official data.
