In January 1994, Jerry Yang and David Filo created a website directory called “Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web.”

On March 2, 1995, they formally incorporated that same project as Yahoo! Inc. in California, USA.

On April 12, 1996, Yahoo! went public on the NASDAQ, and its stock price surged on the first day of trading.

By the late 1990s, Yahoo! had launched services such as Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! News, and Yahoo! Finance, becoming the leading web portal of the dot-com era.

In 2000, Yahoo! declined an opportunity to acquire Google, a decision that later proved costly.

During the 2000–2001 dot-com crash, Yahoo!’s market value dropped sharply.

In 2008, Yahoo! rejected a $44.6 billion takeover offer from Microsoft.

In 2017, Verizon Communications acquired Yahoo!’s core internet business, marking the end of its era as an independent giant.
