Zahhad Paval, reportedly become India’s first transgender man to give birth to a baby.

He delivered the baby on February 8, 2023, at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala.

The news gained national attention after his partner, Ziya Paval, a transgender woman, announced the pregnancy through social media, describing it as a historic moment for the transgender community in India.

Zahhad had been undergoing gender-affirming treatment, including hormone therapy, but paused the process so the couple could have a biological child.

In 2025, the Kerala High Court issued a landmark order allowing both Zahhad and Ziya to be listed as “parents” (instead of “mother” and “father”) on their child’s birth certificate, recognizing their gender identities.
