The first official report of COVID-19 cases was sent to the World Health Organization.

On 31 December 2019, WHO’s China office noticed a statement from the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission about cases of viral pneumonia in Wuhan, China.

These cases later turned out to be COVID‑19, the virus responsible for the COVID‑19 pandemic.
