General Motors was founded in the United States.

On 16 September 1908, William C. Durant founded General Motors (GM) in the United States to consolidate several automobile companies.

It brought together companies producing Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Oakland (later Pontiac), Ewing and Marquette, along with Reliance and Rapid truck companies.

GM later grew into one of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers.
