The Prasar Bharati Act came into force in India.

On 15 September 1997, the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990 came into force.

The Act brought Doordarshan and All India Radio under Prasar Bharati, India’s public service broadcaster.
