Ardeshir Tarapore
Ardeshir Tarapore (Ardeshir Burzorji Tarapore) an Indian military officer. He was ranked Lieutenant Colonel in indian army. He was the Commanding Officer of the Poona Horse Regiment of the 1st Armoured Division, tasked with capturing Phillora in Sialkot, Pakistan, during the Indo-Pak War of 1965. In the Battle of Chawinda, considered one of the largest tank battles since World War II, he and his team fended off the first wave of attacks but he himself was injured. Refusing to be evacuated, he led his team in battle for six days, destroying 60 Pakistani tanks while losing just nine. Among the losses was Lt. Col. Tarapore’s own tank; he fought until his last breath.
