Bhola Paswan Shastri
Bhola Paswan Shastri an Indian independence activist, social worker, politician.
8th Chief Minister of Bihar.
First Dalit Chief Minister of Bihar and second Dalit Chief Minister in India after Damodaram Sanjivayya.
He served three times as Chief Minister of Bihar.
He was a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha.
He served as Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
Whether as a minister or Chief Minister, he often worked under trees, sitting on a simple blanket, and his honesty and detachment earned him the nickname ‘Videha’ in Bihar politics.
After he graduated with a “Shastri” degree (the equivalent of a Bachelor of Arts in Sanskrit) from Kashi Vidyapeeth in 1939, the title became a permanent part of his name.
To honour him, Bhola Paswan Shastri College, Babhangama, Bihariganj, Madhepura is named after him.
