International Town Criers Day

International Town Criers Day is observed annually on the second Monday of July.

The observance honors town criers, the official public announcers who delivered news, royal proclamations, and civic notices before newspapers, radio, and television.

It celebrates the history, traditions, and cultural heritage of the centuries-old profession while recognizing the role town criers played in public communication.

The day was established in 1997 by Scott Fraser, Town Crier of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

It is marked through town crier competitions, ceremonial proclamations, heritage events, historical reenactments, and community celebrations in countries where the tradition continues.
