Marathi Official Language Day – India
Marathi Official Language Day is observed on 1 May in India.
On 1 May 1960, the state of Maharashtra was formed through the Bombay Reorganisation Act, 1960, and Marathi became the official language of the state.
The Maharashtra Official Languages Act, 1964, implemented in 1965, formalised its use in administration.
1 May is Maharashtra Day, while “Marathi Official Language Day” is a separate observance linked to the Maharashtra Official Languages Act, 1964.
27 February is officially observed as Marathi Language Pride Day, marking the birth anniversary of Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar and celebrating Marathi language, literature, and culture.
