Myanmar Martyrs' Day

Myanmar Martyrs' Day, also known as Arzarni Day, is observed annually on July 19.

It was first observed on July 19, 1947, following the assassination of General (Bogyoke) Aung San, seven members of Myanmar's pre-independence interim government, and one bodyguard during a cabinet meeting at The Secretariat in Yangon.

The observance is a national public holiday in Myanmar. It is commemorated across the country, with the main state ceremony held at the Martyrs' Mausoleum in Yangon, where government officials, dignitaries, and members of the public pay tribute to the fallen leaders.

The day honors General (Bogyoke) Aung San, regarded as the Father of Modern Myanmar, and the other martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Myanmar's independence and nation-building.

The observance also promotes national remembrance, historical awareness, unity, patriotism, and respect for those who sacrificed their lives for Myanmar's freedom.
