He began his playback singing career in the early 1990s and gained nationwide recognition with "Chaiyya Chaiyya" from Dil Se.. (1998), composed by A. R. Rahman.

He achieved global fame with "Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millionaire (2008).

The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, while Sukhwinder Singh received a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.

He received the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for "Bismil" from Haider (2014).

He has also won two Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer for "Chaiyya Chaiyya" and "Haule Haule" from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

Known for his powerful, energetic, and versatile singing style, Sukhwinder Singh has recorded songs in Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, and several other Indian languages.
