The Dalit Panthers, a revolutionary organisation, was founded in India.

On 9 July 1972, the Dalit Panther Movement was founded in Mumbai, Maharashtra, by Namdeo Dhasal, J. V. Pawar, and Raja Dhale.

The movement was inspired by the Black Panther Party and was formed to fight caste discrimination, atrocities, and the exploitation of Dalits, while opposing the stagnant politics of the Republican Party of India.

The organisation was influenced by the ideas of B. R. Ambedkar, anti-caste activism, and global civil rights movements.

It used militant protests, literature, street activism, and cultural movements to mobilize Dalit youth across India.

The Dalit Panthers played a major role in reshaping Dalit politics and Dalit literature in the 1970s, and later became one of the most influential anti-caste movements in modern India.
