The National Flag of India was adopted.
On July 22, 1947, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the national flag of independent India, based on the earlier Swaraj Flag, with the Ashoka Chakra replacing the spinning wheel (charkha).
Pingali Venkayya is credited with designing the original Swaraj Flag, which formed the basis of the national flag. The final design and adoption involved discussions and approval by the Constituent Assembly.
Surayya Tyabji contributed to the artistic refinement and presentation of the flag, but it is not firmly established that she alone suggested replacing the charkha with the Ashoka Chakra. That change was part of broader discussions and decisions made by the committee and the Assembly.
