The world’s first commercial transistor radio, the Regency TR-1, was launched.

On October 18, 1954, Texas Instruments, in collaboration with Regency Electronics (a division of I.D.E.A. – Industrial Development Engineering Associates), launched the Regency TR-1 in the United States.

By replacing bulky vacuum tubes with compact transistors, the TR-1 became smaller, lighter, and more energy-efficient, revolutionizing portability in electronics.
