World Savings Day – India

World Savings Day (World Thrift Day) is celebrated annually on 31st October across the world.

The day was established in 1924 by the World Savings Bank Congress held in Milan, Italy.

However, India observes on October 30 since 1985.

The date was changed following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.

It aims to raise awareness about the importance of saving money and encourages people to keep their savings in banks instead of storing them at home or under mattresses.
