Mahatma Gandhi founded the Sabarmati Ashram.
On 25 May 1915, Mahatma Gandhi founded Kochrab Ashram, also known as Satyagraha Ashram, at Kochrab village near Ahmedabad, India after returning from South Africa.
It became Gandhi’s first ashram in India and was established in a bungalow given by barrister Jivanlal Desai.
Gandhi practiced and promoted ideas such as satyagraha, swadeshi, khadi, self-reliance, and communal living at the ashram.
On 17 June 1917, Mahatma Gandhi officially founded Sabarmati Ashram, and the residents shifted there from Kochrab Ashram.
