World Chimpanzee Day

World Chimpanzee Day is observed annually on 14 July.

The observance commemorates the day in 1960 when Dr. Jane Goodall first arrived at Gombe National Park, Tanzania, to begin her groundbreaking study of wild chimpanzees.

It was established in 2018 by a coalition of conservation organizations to honor that milestone.

The day raises awareness about chimpanzee conservation, habitat protection, wildlife trafficking, and the importance of safeguarding humanity's closest living relatives through education and global action.
