World Polio Day

World Polio Day is observed every year on October 24th.

It was established by Rotary International to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Jonas Salk, the scientist who developed the first successful polio vaccine.

The day aims to raise awareness about polio eradication efforts, honor healthcare workers and volunteers, and encourage continued immunization drives to ensure the world remains polio-free.

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), led by the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, Rotary International, and the CDC, continues to focus on eliminating the disease completely.
