World’s first modern bikini was introduced.
On 5th July 1946, French designer Louis Réard introduced the modern bikini at Piscine Molitor, a popular swimming pool in Paris.
The two-piece swimsuit, modeled by Parisian showgirl Micheline Bernardini, was named after the ‘Bikini Atoll’ (Marshall Islands), where the USA conducted atomic bomb tests just days earlier on 1st July 1946.
